The Challenge
In lower GDP nations, the majority of pre-paid mobile phones have a negative balance for long periods of time making it impossible for them to be used. At the same time, many of these phone users have relatives overseas with a higher earning power. Global Topup is a service that enables users in one country to purchase pre-pay top-up's that can be automatically gifted to the relatives phone as a way of staying in touch. The challenge to the operator is to enable a cost efficient service to receive a top-up when the handset owner or 3rd party gifting a topup is not present. Currently 98% of prepaid top-up is not initiated from a handset.

Mi-Pay's Solution
Mi-Pays enables consumers to register online for the gifting of top-ups onto family and friends mobile phones overseas. This allows operators in remote markets to target wealthier relatives to top-up accounts back in its home network for family and friends. These services can be provided on either a branded or white-labelled basis.

The service uses liability containment business processes and the most cost-efficient payment instrument for the top-up transaction request.
